Granular Entity Classification for Financial Services

Beyond simple personal/business classification, the Entity Type Classifier identifies 9 distinct entity types — Individual, Joint, Trust, Estate, LLC, Corporation, Partnership, Government, and Nonprofit — each with a confidence score.

What It Does

Entity type classification is the process of categorizing a name or record into a specific legal entity type. BackOffice Scripts' Entity Type Classifier uses AI to analyze names and determine the most likely entity type from 9 categories: Individual, Joint, Trust, Estate, LLC, Corporation, Partnership, Government, and Nonprofit. Each classification includes a confidence score. This granular classification is essential for insurance underwriting (determining policy forms and premium calculations), mortgage processing (HMDA entity coding), and compliance reporting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between this and the Name Classifier?

The Name Classifier gives a simple yes/no for personal vs. business. The Entity Type Classifier provides 9 granular categories with confidence scores. Use this when you need to distinguish between trusts, LLCs, corporations, and other specific entity types.

How does the confidence score work?

A score of 0.95+ means the model is highly confident. Scores below 0.70 suggest the name is ambiguous — these are good candidates for manual review. Most records score above 0.85.

Can it detect DBA names?

It recognizes 'DBA' and 'doing business as' patterns. These are typically classified as the underlying entity type when detectable, or flagged with a lower confidence score.

What's the cost?

1 credit per record. Available with any paid credit pack starting at $15 for 500 credits.
